Flan Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Caramel:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
For the Custard:
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
Prepare the Caramel: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water. Cook, swirling occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and turns a deep amber color. Quickly pour the caramel into a round 9-inch baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.
Make the Custard: In a large bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, whole milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
Assemble the Flan: Pour the custard mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
Bake in a Water Bath: Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and add hot water to the larger pan until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
Cool and Serve: Let the flan cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours. To serve, run a knife around the edges, then invert onto a plate to release the caramel topping.
